Most bathroom failures are drainage failures wearing a tile.

The wet room problem

Water finds the fall you built, not the one you intended. The commonest defect is not a leaking membrane but a floor that slopes very slightly the wrong way over the last half metre.

Get the falls set out before tiling and flood-test the waterproofing before anything covers it. A test costs a day. A failure costs the ceiling below.

Threshold detail matters as much as the membrane. A wet room without a defined threshold relies entirely on fall, and fall is the thing most likely to be executed approximately.

Specify the membrane, the fall and the test as three separate line items so none of them can quietly vanish from a quotation.
